Once they reach a biological environment, the adsorption of proteins leads to the immediate formation of a so-called corona, which modifies the surface properties of nanoparticles.

In this recent joint work from the Chinese academy of Science and the University of Hawaii, molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate the formation of a similar corona with the pulmonary surfactant.
