Alternative methods to DNA sequencing methods are currently developed, with the aim of achieve a fast, accurate and inexpensive alternative to the Sanger method. Among them, nanotechnology-based techniques using nanopores for the detection of individual nucleotides appears as a promising way. Thus, a collaboration between researchers from USA (NIST, Boulder and Rice University, Houston) and The Netherlands (University of Groningen and Hanze University) describes the behavior of a nucleobase-functionalized MoS2 nanoribbon placed over a solid electrode, affording together a flat-plate capacitor.
